Just a note from your humble host about some changes coming to the Atomic Anxiety blog. Mainly this: I’m burned out. I’ve been doing this for 1 month short of 3 years. I’ve published 892 posts. Almost all of them have been reviews and I need a break. I’m also under a massive time crunch as I’ve stretched myself too thin. Something needs to go. Since I can’t cut anything work-related, it’s either cut way back on reviews or way back on my creative writing, and I’m unwilling to give up my creative writing, so the reviews are it.
What does this mean? First, it doesn’t actually mean there won’t be any reviews. This isn’t me quitting or me looking for pity – it’s just me saying that the bulk of my time needs to be spent elsewhere for a bit. If I watch something that truly moves me to write, I’ll write that review. Second, I’m thinking of starting a feature where I write really short reviews. My reviews average in the 1,500 word range, so maybe for the summer movie season, I’ll write Ten Word Reviews. Or Fifty Word Reviews. It will be an exercise in precision. If you need full, intelligent reviews, head on over to The Ferguson Theater and read everything Derrick writes.
Heck, you should be doing this anyway.
Second, I might start posting more creative work here. I published my entire HAUNTING OF KRAKEN MOOR novel online and I was very happy with the experience.
Third, I might just end up replacing writing about movies with talking about movies. I’ve been itching to start a podcast for a while, so when the schedule loosens up a bit, maybe I’ll undertake that project.
Fourth, I’ll still be publishing the Atomic Interviews. They’ve been incredibly popular and I love doing them.
I want to thank everyone for reading and assure you that while the amount of content will slow down, I think whenever I do return to writing full reviews, they will be the better for it.
Or, I’ll end up becoming so obsessed with Lite Brites that I’ll never write again.
